This looks like a job for Inspector Moors to help us discover where they are and who took them...but, we'll need some help from a team of assistants along the way, to help us crack some musical clues to bring them safely back!

Join Eleanor Mills playing the Bassoon and singer John Ieuan Jones as they perform all sorts of interesting music to help us tell our story and give children the opportunity to experience live music in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

AP24 – Instrumental – Bassoon, Oboe & Piano

Adam McKenzie (Bassoon), Richard Hewitt (Oboe), Annette Saunders (Piano)

19 May 2024

In our mission to introduce people to all the instruments of the classical world, and highlight some of the instruments that don't get quite as much attention - this year we're excited to showcase the Bassoon at this year's festival - an instrument very distinct in both look and sound(!), it's an important part of the orchestra's bass section, but doesn't often get much love as a solo instrument -  despite some amazing music having been written for it!

Featuring music by Madeleine Dring, Francis Poulenc, Camille Saint-Saens performed by musicians of Opera North

AP24 – Musical Theatre – Leading Ladies

Marie Collins, Barbara Jaeson & Rosalind Jones (Piano)

18 May 2024

&Piano 2024 is celebrating the work of British composer Madeleine Dring to mark the recent centenary of her birth. And so, for our Musical Theatre event of the festival we thought we'd showcase and celebrate some of the fantastic songs and shows written by female composers and librettists, as well as a selectin of iconic, popular songs by male composers for female singers.

Expect songs from Sunset Boulevard, Evita, Miss Saigon, Chicago, as well as songs by Mary Rodgers (Once Upon a Matress), Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Frozen the Musical).

AP24 – Performance Pub

21 May 2024

After the success of last year's event, our Performance Pub returns to the Attic Theatre at the LBT once again, offering musicians of any ability, experience & background to perform as part of our festival.

Classical singers & instrumentalists of all abilities, backgrounds and experiences are invited to perform 1-2 pieces of music, and a professional accompanist will be available to play for you.

AP24 – Song – Shakespeare & Simon Armitage

Sarah Fox (Soprano), Joe Shovelton (Tenor) & Chris Pulleyn (Piano)

25 May 2024

We finish &Piano 2024 and our celebration of the music of Madeleine Dring by exploring a selection of some of the songs she wrote. Heavily inspired and influenced by variety shows, cabaret and musical theatre, her songs are lively, witty, jazzy and playful - and many still continue to be performed and sung by singers today.

Inspired by this popular collection, and our mission to support a distinctly Northern identity for Classical music, we’re really excited to present the world premiere of our first ever commission of a new piece of music - ‘Five Armitage Songs’, a collection of songs by emerging composer Alice Beckwith, originally from Halifax, setting five poems by current Poet Laureate and Huddersfield native, Simon Armitage.

AP24 – Young Musician Showcase

23 May 2024

Join us for another evening celebrating some of the talented young musicians living and studying in Kirklees & Calderdale, featuring a fantastic mix of singers & instrumentalists, each performing a short, varied programme of music on their instrument.
